Day 197: Cottonwood

Day 197
That creamy white bokeh you see in the background is the backside of all the other leaves on the tree, which look and feel like fuzzy white cotton.  These two little leaves were turned around, while the rest faced east toward the morning sun.

This cottonwood tree is at the top of a hill in my parents' backyard.  As a kid, I would play underneath it in my sandbox.  Now, it seems to get bigger and bigger every year, despite the pruning my dad has to do to keep it under control.  Every spring, the little fluffballs of cotton drift off the tree making it look like it's snowing in the neighborhood.  It's the only "winter wonderland" we get to have in our mild Bay Area climate.
